Breaking News: GM & THESE Seven Major Automakers Just Announced a New Open EV Charging Network!

The seven major automakers mentioned in the initial statement—General Motors, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, and Stellantis—are joining forces to build a North American electric vehicle charging network. brands representing about half of U.S. vehicle sales but a small share of the EV market dominated by Tesla. The goal is to rival Tesla’s existing network and significantly increase the number of fast-charging plugs in the United States and Canada.

While specific details about the number of charging stations and financial investment have not been disclosed, the companies plan to build “high power” charging stations with a total of 30,000 plugs across urban areas and travel corridors. The joint venture aims to create a leading network of reliable high-powered charging stations throughout North America.

The automakers acknowledge that establishing such a large-scale charging network requires a multibillion-dollar investment. While the first U.S. chargers are expected to be ready by next summer, no timeline has been provided for completing the entire network.

Currently, there are nearly 8,700 direct-current fast-charging stations with around 36,000 charging plugs in the United States and Canada combined. This joint effort by major automakers is intended to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by addressing concerns about long-distance travel and ensuring widespread access to chargers.

EVBASE is designing and developing various EV adapter and EV charging solutions. Our goal is to cater to the requirements of different charging stations or piles, ultimately contributing to the growth and advancement of the electric vehicle industry.

These adapters and charging solutions play a crucial role in enabling electric vehicle owners to charge their vehicles at different types of charging infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and convenience. The article refutes the notion of declining Electric Vehicle (EV) demand, highlighting instead the robust sales and growth of Tesla in various global markets. It mentions how specific instances like Panasonic's reduced battery cell production are misleadingly used to suggest a broader demand issue. The article emphasizes Tesla's record-breaking sales, especially the Model Y becoming the world's best-selling car, as evidence of strong EV demand. It also contrasts Tesla's success with traditional automakers like Ford, who are reportedly facing demand issues, attributing this discrepancy to legacy automakers' reluctance to fully embrace the EV transition due to short-term financial concerns.
