Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is recalling 12,963 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in a battery pack component that could cause a sudden loss of drive power, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects certain 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles. The defect could result in drivers losing the ability to accelerate, which increases the risk of a crash, the regulator said.

Tesla will replace the affected battery pack contactor at no cost to vehicle owners.

As of October 7, the company had received 36 warranty claims and 26 field reports related to this condition. Tesla stated it was not aware of any collisions, injuries, or fatalities connected to the defect.

Vehicle owners can check whether their vehicles are affected by visiting Tesla’s official website or contacting a local service center.
