Tesla’s newly launched six-seater Model Y L has seen overwhelming demand in China, with all orders now sold out. The earliest estimated delivery date is set for November 2025.

Model Y L: Tesla’s “Family SUV”

The Model Y L is a long-wheelbase, six-seat variant introduced specifically for the Chinese market, starting at CNY 339,000 (approximately $47,000 USD). It features three rows of seats, adjustable second- and third-row seating, a larger 16-inch central touchscreen, and a comfort-tuned suspension system, targeting Chinese families who prioritize space and comfort.

Since its launch in August, orders for the Model Y L have surged. Industry estimates indicate over 35,000 orders on the first day, followed by an average of 10,000 new orders per day. Currently, Tesla China’s website shows that all new orders now have estimated delivery dates in November 2025, meaning production and delivery slots for September and October are fully booked.

📈 Boosting Tesla China’s Sales Performance

The strong sales of the Model Y L have significantly contributed to Tesla China’s volume growth. According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla’s retail sales in China reached 57,152 vehicles in August, representing a 48.1% month-over-month increase and 41% year-over-year growth.

Additionally, insurance registration data for September 1–7 show 14,300 new registrations, marking the highest weekly level in the quarter and a 14.4% increase compared to the previous week.

Future Outlook and Market Strategy

The success of the Model Y L not only strengthens Tesla’s position in China but also creates potential opportunities in other markets with demand for larger family SUVs. Tesla may consider exporting the Model Y L to regions where spacious electric SUVs are in demand.

Meanwhile, Tesla has announced a 3.7% price reduction for the Model 3 Long Range sedan in China, aiming to boost its competitiveness in the mid-to-high-end EV market. These moves highlight Tesla’s strategic adjustments in China, leveraging product diversification and pricing to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

The strong reception of the Model Y L demonstrates Chinese consumers’ growing demand for high-value, spacious electric SUVs and marks another milestone in Tesla’s product lineup in China. With delivery schedules now extended, the market performance of the Model Y L will remain a key point to watch.
