Tesla says the U.S. Model Y L Launch Series is almost sold out, according to a July 30 customer message shared by Sawyer Merritt. The warning puts a clock on the first American version of Tesla's long-wheelbase, six-seat SUV, but the company has not disclosed the size of the Launch Series allocation or a firm order cutoff.

"The Launch Series Model Y L is almost sold out in the U.S., so if you want one, order soon."

Almost Sold Out Is a Signal, Not a Sales Number

The message is useful, we think it marks a transition from launch hype to inventory pressure. Tesla introduced the U.S. Model Y L in early July as a Premium All-Wheel Drive Launch Series. Reuters and other outlets reported a starting price for this vehicle of $61,990 at launch. A near-sellout fact could reflect strong demand, a deliberately small opening batch or both.

One Price Bundles FSD, Charging and Premium Options

The customer message lists one year of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), one year of Supercharging and one year of Premium Connectivity. It also says buyers can choose any exterior paint, interior color and wheel option without an additional charge. Launch-specific badging, floor mats, puddle lights, suede dashboard inserts and sill plates complete the package.

Those extras make the edition easier to understand as a bundled, high-content configuration rather than the future entry point for Model Y L. Tesla has not announced a cheaper U.S. trim in the source material reviewed for this article, although launch editions normally leave room for a broader lineup later. People who interested in this series should carefully evaluate the package on its current terms, not on an assumed future price.

Audio, Powershare and Phone Charging Need Different Proof

Merritt separately reported that the Model Y L uses 19 speakers, including a subwoofer and a dedicated rear-center speaker. His hands-on impression praised bass response and second-row balance, but sound quality remains subjective and Tesla's public Model Y page did not provide the same speaker breakdown when reviewed. Treat the count as a credible first-hand configuration report, not a laboratory test.

"The Model Y L has the best sound system of any Model Y trim."

The energy story needs even more care. Merritt said the North American Model Y L supports 11.5-kW vehicle-to-home Powershare and may require Powerwall 3. Tesla's current Model Y owner's manual now references Powershare when equipped, but older public support language still centers the feature on Cybertruck. Tesla has not yet published a clear Model Y L home-backup eligibility page covering hardware, installation and region limits.

Merritt also said North American vehicles do not yet receive the actively cooled wireless phone chargers used in China, citing regional differences in charging standards. That timeline is not confirmed on Tesla's public specifications. Buyers should therefore verify the exact vehicle, software and home-energy hardware on their order rather than assuming every reported feature is active at delivery.

That distinction is especially important for Launch Series buyers. Included subscriptions have clear one-year windows, while home-backup power depends on compatible equipment, local installation and software. A premium bundle can still be attractive, but its recurring and setup costs should be separated from the vehicle's headline price.

Scarcity Should Not Replace Configuration Checks

The near-sellout notice is the confirmed purchasing signal, even if Tesla has not revealed the denominator. The bundle gives early buyers a highly specified Model Y L, while the audio, Powershare and cooled-charging reports show why configuration details still matter. Scarcity may speed up a decision, but verification should come before urgency.
