Tesla appears to still be developing support for Apple’s CarPlay system in its vehicles, according to a recent report. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, writing in his Power On newsletter, said that the effort is “still in the works,” contradicting earlier assumptions that Tesla had dropped the project entirely.

Initial reports about Tesla potentially adding CarPlay surfaced late last year, with Bloomberg and Reuters sources indicating that the company was planning to offer wireless support for the popular iPhone interface in its EVs. The move would mark a significant shift for Tesla, which has traditionally relied on its own proprietary infotainment platform rather than integrating third-party systems like CarPlay.

According to the latest details from Gurman, Tesla’s implementation of Apple CarPlay would differ from most other automakers. Rather than allowing CarPlay to take over the full screen, the feature is expected to be integrated as a window within Tesla’s existing interface, coexisting with the native system so that core driving information — such as vehicle status and Autopilot visuals, remains visible alongside the mirrored iPhone apps.

Details on a potential release timeline or which models might receive CarPlay support first have not been confirmed. Gurman noted that more information could be shared soon, but no specific launch date has been announced.

The inclusion of Apple CarPlay would address a long-standing request from many Tesla owners, who for years have pointed to the lack of native smartphone mirroring as a missing feature compared to other vehicles on the market. Tesla already offers some Apple ecosystem access through standalone apps such as Apple Music and Apple Podcasts, but full CarPlay integration would extend iPhone functionality directly into the car’s display.

For now, CarPlay support remains a reported plan rather than an officially announced feature, leaving Tesla drivers and prospective buyers watching for an upcoming software update that could finally bring the long-requested functionality.
