Tesla has added a new version of its official Model Y cooler, giving owners of newer base Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive vehicles a fitted option for groceries, road trips and camping.

The new Tesla frunk cooler is listed at $245 in the company’s online store. It is designed to occupy the front trunk rather than the rear cargo area, allowing owners to keep cold food and drinks separate from luggage and passengers.

The launch sounds simple, but Tesla now sells two visually similar coolers with different dimensions and compatibility rules. Buyers need to select the correct version for their vehicle before ordering.

Tesla Cooler Price and Capacity

Tesla lists the Model Y version at $245. It measures 27.2 inches long, 16.8 inches wide and 13.5 inches high. Capacity is 38.86 quarts, while empty weight is 18.81 pounds.

The larger Model Y Premium and Performance version costs $275. It measures 29.8 by 17.4 by 11.5 inches, holds 42 quarts and weighs 22 pounds empty.

The $30 Tesla cooler price difference therefore buys slightly more capacity, but the two products are not interchangeable upgrades. Their shapes reflect differences in the available frunk space across Model Y versions.

Both coolers use lightweight materials and insulation that Tesla says can keep perishables cold and ice frozen for days. Neither listing describes an electrical compressor or powered refrigeration system. Owners will still need ice or reusable cold packs.

That distinction matters for shoppers searching for a Tesla Model Y cooler. This accessory is a fitted passive cooler, not a refrigerator that plugs into the car.

Which Model Y Does Each Cooler Fit?

The $245 Model Y cooler is listed as compatible with Model Y vehicles produced in 2025 and later. Tesla’s store separates this style from the version labeled “Model Y Premium and Performance.”

According to the product page, the $275 cooler fits Model Y Premium and Performance vehicles produced in 2025 or later. It also fits earlier Model Y vehicles manufactured from February 16, 2020, through February 23, 2025.

Owners should not rely on model year alone. Production date and trim determine the frunk shape, and Tesla requires buyers to sign into the account associated with their vehicle before purchasing. That ownership check may help prevent an incompatible order, but customers should still confirm the vehicle listed in their account.

The safest approach is to select the correct style on Tesla’s product page while logged in. If the store marks a vehicle identification number as ineligible, owners should not assume the other cooler will fit without confirmation.

Why a Fitted Frunk Cooler Makes Sense

Generic coolers can work in a Model Y, but they may leave awkward unused space or move around during acceleration and cornering. Tesla’s cooler is shaped specifically for the frunk, turning a compartment that some owners use only occasionally into more practical storage.

For road trips, the location keeps drinks accessible without mixing melting ice with clothing or electronics. Campers can reserve the rear cargo area for sleeping equipment. Grocery shoppers can isolate chilled or leaking items from the main cabin.

The accessory also highlights an advantage shared by many electric vehicles. Without a combustion engine under the hood, the Model Y can offer a front storage compartment large enough for purpose-built Tesla Model Y accessories.

There are tradeoffs. A fitted product costs more than many conventional soft coolers, and loading it with ice, bottles and food will make it considerably heavier than its empty specification. Owners also need to lift the loaded cooler in and out of the frunk if they want to drain or clean it.

Availability May Be the Immediate Problem

Tesla’s U.S. shop showed the Model Y cooler as out of stock when checked, with an option to request a restock email. Availability can change quickly and may vary by region.

For interested owners, the main decision is straightforward: the $245 Tesla cooler serves newer base Model Y vehicles, while the $275 version covers current Premium and Performance models plus specified earlier cars.

It is not the most technical Tesla accessory, but it solves a familiar ownership problem with unusually precise packaging. For Model Y drivers who routinely carry groceries, cold drinks or camping supplies, using the empty space under the hood may be the cooler’s strongest feature.
