Tesla Begins Delivering Model S in Japan Introduces Left-Hand Drive Version

Photo shared by Tesla Japan reveals the arrival of Model S deliveries in the country

Tesla enthusiasts in Japan have a reason to rejoice as the electric vehicle manufacturer has officially started delivering the highly anticipated Model S in the Land of the Rising Sun. The news was confirmed by Tesla Japan in a recent post on its social media account, accompanied by an exciting photo showcasing a delivery day event for the sleek sedan.

Expanding Presence in Japan

After announcing its plans to introduce the Model S and Model X in Japan a few months ago, Tesla has made good on its promise. While many wondered if the vehicles would be available as right-hand drive (RHD) versions, it turns out that Tesla has opted to offer left-hand drive (LHD) models in Japan, as indicated on the company's order configurator.

Unique Offering in a Right-Hand Drive Country

Japan, being a right-hand drive country, typically favors RHD vehicles. However, the Japanese government permits the use of LHD vehicles on its roads. Tesla has taken advantage of this opportunity to bring the Model S to Japanese customers, even though it is currently not producing a right-hand drive version of the popular sedan.

Three Years of Free Supercharging

In an effort to sweeten the deal for Japanese buyers, Tesla has also announced that customers purchasing the Model S or Model X in Japan will receive three years of free unlimited Supercharging. This perk adds incredible value to the ownership experience and further solidifies Tesla's commitment to customer satisfaction.

Debate Surrounding Practicality and Market Demand

While the arrival of the Model S in Japan is undoubtedly exciting, some discussions have emerged about the practicality and potential market demand for left-hand drive luxury vehicles in the country. Historically, right-hand drive luxury vehicles have held significant status in Japan. However, opinions vary on whether this remains the case today. Nonetheless, there are predictions that the limited availability of LHD versions might impact sales figures for the Model S and Model X.

Pricing Details

Tesla has also unveiled the pricing structure for the Model S and Model X in Japan. The entry-level Model S starts at ¥12,969,000 ($87,355), while the high-performance Model S Plaid is priced at ¥15,969,000 ($107,562). For those interested in the Model X SUV, the base variant is available for ¥14,469,000 ($97,459), while the top-of-the-line Model X Plaid is currently priced at ¥16,669,000 ($112,277).

With the official delivery of the Model S in Japan, Tesla continues its global expansion, bringing its cutting-edge electric vehicles to new markets around the world. The arrival of these iconic models in Japan is sure to make waves and attract attention from electric vehicle enthusiasts and luxury car enthusiasts alike.

The article delves into the financial challenges faced by electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD in Q3, highlighting a significant loss which underscores the contrasting profitability of Tesla in the same period. Debunking the Myth of Declining EV Demand: A Closer Look at Tesla's Unprecedented Growth

The article refutes the notion of declining Electric Vehicle (EV) demand, highlighting instead the robust sales and growth of Tesla in various global markets. It mentions how specific instances like Panasonic's reduced battery cell production are misleadingly used to suggest a broader demand issue. The article emphasizes Tesla's record-breaking sales, especially the Model Y becoming the world's best-selling car, as evidence of strong EV demand. It also contrasts Tesla's success with traditional automakers like Ford, who are reportedly facing demand issues, attributing this discrepancy to legacy automakers' reluctance to fully embrace the EV transition due to short-term financial concerns.
